About

Jha’Neal Blue is an artist and performer from Baltimore, Maryland. She began her journey in the arts at age ten when she competed in the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. oratory competition at school. Guided by her then-media arts instructor, Bashi Rose, Blue brought home a well-deserved first place win. In high school, she was a member of the long-running Floetic Lyricists organization. There, she began thinking critically about the messages she sent into the world through her poetry. She credits her former advisor, Bill Bleich, for helping her craft her best self on the page. Through Floetic Lyricists, she joined Dewmore Baltimore.

At Dewmore, Blue competed as one-fifth of the Baltimore City Youth Poetry Team. For three consecutive years, Blue and the team won several slams. Then, in 2016, Blue became co-captain and helped lead B.C.Y.P.T to its first victory in HBO’s International Brave New Voices competition. After college, Blue rejoined the team as the Assistant Voice & Movement coach; a year later, she became the Head coach. As a Head coach, Blue guided the young people how she was taught. Speak from your heart, and the rest will follow. In 2021, B.C.Y.P.T took home 2nd place in the B.N.V competition. Since then, Blue has made a name for herself in and around Baltimore and the DMV area.

Although Blue has been a part of the art community for most of her life, she truly began her acting career at Frostburg State University. There, she was able to exercise her talents through many facets. When she wasn’t on stage, she became inspired by playwriting and directing. Since then, Blue has written over twenty-five short plays and films. Blue’s most notable acting roles were as Chelle in Detroit ‘67, Harry in Harry & The Thief, Love in The Color Brown, and Nina in Sunset Baby. She dedicates her hard work to her younger siblings. She believes dreams are supposed to come true, and she will stop at nothing to ensure her siblings know how possible theirs are by going after her own.
